Here follows a brief history of our society for now.
The Severn Valley Railway is one of the premier steam preservation lines in the country. The Friends were set up in 1993 to enhance the station built at Kidderminster and provide the atmosphere and ambience that a true GWR station of the 1920's would have had. Where possible we have recovered original GWR items for reuse, such as spear top fence panels and platform barrows etc. When preservation has not been possible, we have built exact replicas of items, such as Roof Crestings and the Entrance Canopy from samples, engineering drawings or photos.
The Friends also have an interest in historic railway buildings and general heritage conservation. We were recently donated the last GWR Forge in existence from Reading and this will be the subject of a project of joint interest to the SVR Museum as well as ourselves.
